New Fibromyalgia and Diet Info - Good Stuff!
I just found this in a Delaware website. See what you think:
"Fibromyalgia is a devastating condition characterized by diffuse muscle pain, debilitating fatigue, insomnia, irritable bowel syndrome and depression. Sufferers can often become overwhelmed by their symptoms, feeling as though they are no longer participants in their own lives.
"Conventional medical approaches include the use of antidepressants such as selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors, anti-inflammatory medications to reduce muscle pain and sleeping medications to decrease insomnia… Sleep hygiene also plays a role in fibromyalgia, and there appears to be an association between poor sleep and fibromyalgia-related pain… While conventional medical approaches can be helpful, many patients complain of feeling over-medicated or simply don't wish to take so many medicines, or they may find that many of the medications are not helpful in their case.
"Appropriate supplementation with vitamins, minerals and other compounds seems to have a positive effect on fibromyalgia, according to several studies.
"It is important to pay close attention to one's diet as well. Certain foods may actually exacerbate symptoms, and patients may find it helpful to keep a food journal noting whether there is any association between the food they eat and the intensity of their symptoms. Patients should eat as wholesome a diet as possible, emphasizing eating whole foods and vegetables. They should have limited, or no, red meat, fried foods, processed foods or alcohol."
